The One Where We Get Back Up

Three things happened in the last couple of days to get me back on track:

  1. I had a good cry.
  2. My photo memories showed my garden from last year. I had quadrupled it, and it felt abundant, but it was still hopelessly shaded and permanently soggy in our swampy, tree-covered suburban lot. A tiny fraction of what we have now, after a move we didn't have any idea we'd be making one year ago. Oh no, poor me, there are too many deer in my huge garden.
  3. Chatting with a friend about a company we both worked for years ago. Thinking about the insane corporate behavior between unqualified and self-important bosses, I had so many to choose from, and the annual budgeting process when we all had to collectively hallucinate next year's numbers based on some old dudes in a board room wanting to buy their next vacation home. We would create actual budgets based on real numbers, and by the end of the process it was always, always, always overinflated and based on nothing. And then we'd have to spend the entire next year defending why we weren't meeting those made-up numbers. Yes, I'll take troublesome deer and shoveling manure instead, any day.

So we're back on track. I've got all kinds of crazy lights, shiny things, deer sprays, deer corn, to put away from my garden, and the beginning of an actual plan. Spoiler alert: new fence needed, to keep the predator pressure down.

We're going to be just fine.
